Welcome to Sunnyside, New York City. The sunniest neighborhood in all of Gotham. I spent the first year of my life in Sunnyside (b.1974) and returned 28 years later. In the 5 years since I’ve been here Sunnyside has changed immensely and continues to do so at a rapid rate. For better or worse, Starbucks est arrive but we still have neighborhood mom-and-pop stores like The Grind cafe. The neighborhood will have to continue its balance of local proprietors without becoming a cookie-cutter neighborhood. Although one thing that hasn’t really changed is the vast diversity of its people. Immigrants continue to flock to Sunnyside with a long-time Irish settlement, Dominicans, Ecuadoreans, Koreans, Russians, Eastern Europeans etc. Just check out the 7 subway anytime of day. This blog is here to chronicle the happenings of the neighborhood and greater Queens. Hopefully becoming a resource for others. Come see the Sunnyside of life!
